The National Kidney Foundation of Illinois (NKFI), is sponsoring a program that provides kidney screening and education while on the move. KidneyMobile was first launched in November 2005 and continues to support communities. Through this program, services such as, diabetes, blood pressure, glucose testing, and follow-up visits are offered. To date, over 8,000 people have been screened.

Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is a severe disease which causes damage to the kidneys and decreases the ability to stay healthy. Children that are affected by CKD are “30 times more likely to die than children in the general population.” The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) is conducting a study to learn about the early stages of CKD in children. From this study, researchers anticipate being able to reduce the risk of CKD in children and promote long-term health.

According to the National Kidney Disease Education Program (NKDEP), over 8 million Americans suffer from reduced kidney function and 400,000 require dialysis or a kidney transplant to live. In recognition of Kidney Awareness Month you are encouraged to seek testing, learn about treatment availability and prevention. You should not be in the dark about your health.

The Clinical Meetings sponsored by the National Kidney Foundation will be held this spring in Dallas. All members of the kidney healthcare team, such as nurses, nephrologists, technicians, social workers and dietitians, are invited to register now. The meetings will be held April 2-6th.

The Clinical Meetings (CM08) is an annual event held to provide innovative ideas, support and information on chronic kidney disease. This year the CM08 will be held April 2-6th in Dallas, Texas. Physicians, practitioners and nurses are all encouraged to reserve a seat to participate in the workshops, courses and debates.
